Tom Jenkins to be Feted at McMaster Engineering Awards Night

New Research Achievement Award introduced

HAMILTON - He grew up in Hamilton. He earned his engineering degree from McMaster University. Today he’s chairman of Canada’s largest software company.

Tom Jenkins, executive chairman and chief strategy officer of Open Text Corporation, is being recognized for his contributions to engineering, McMaster and the community with the L.W. Shemilt Distinguished Alumni Award.

The award will be presented by McMaster’s Faculty of Engineering during its annual Applause and Accolades Awards Celebration on Thursday, May 13. The event is being held at LIUNA Station (360 James St. N.) in Hamilton from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.

Also being recognized for his contributions that evening will be Paul Spekkens, vice president, science and technology development, Ontario Power Generation, who will be presented with the Faculty of Engineering Leadership Award.

New this year is the presentation of a Research Achievement Award. It is being presented to Robert Pelton, professor of chemical engineering, Canada Research Chair in Interfacial Technologies, and a founding member of the Sentinel Bioactive Paper Network.

Engineering faculty and students will also be recognized for their numerous achievements this past year.
